Since 1971, our mission has been to mitigate the impact of trauma by providing crisis intervention services to First Responders and the community. We accomplish this mission by commissioning, training and supporting Public Safety Chaplains who serve police and fire agencies. Our organization receives no public funding. TPCC relies on donations made by First Responders & members of the community.

WHAT

OUR MISSION

Our Police and Fire Chaplains respond to calls for service 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, directly supporting First Responders and the nearly 900,000 residents of Pierce County. Our Chaplains serve all people, regardless of their faith background, during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, helping them to navigate the aftermath of a traumatic event and build resilience.

After successful completion of our Academy, our Chaplains are equipped to provide the following services:

  • Confidential Counsel: giving First Responders a confidential resource to help them work through stress and mitigate the impact of absorbing the trauma that they are exposed to

  • Scene Stabilization: emergency assistance for first responders & members of the community on the scene of a traumatic incident

  • Crisis Intervention: the application of suicide intervention, mental health first aid & other techniques that promote recovery from a crisis

  • Death Notifications: contact, notify & support next of kin after the unexpected loss of a loved one

  • Peer Support Team & Critical Incident Stress Management: facilitate and/or participate in activities to aid in recovery & reactivation after a traumatic incident

  • Family Support: assist First Responder families & participate in Family Association events

  • Line of Duty Deaths: provide support to the families and peers of fallen first responders as we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice

  • Community Outreach: participate in events that strengthen relationships with the community

SUPPORT

I called 911 because my mother passed away. Our Chaplain was caring, confident, respectful and kind... a nonjudgmental voice of calm and reason. I can't even begin to describe the frustrations, grief, anger, and sadness of our family as we worked to lay our mother to rest. The Chaplain helped to ease our pain.  It took several days and numerous telephone calls to handle permissions, coordination, payments...  the Chaplain guided us and helped us make it all happen. I feel better knowing that our family was well taken care of. Thank you for this valuable service, especially during these challenging times.

WE NEED YOU!

Our support comes entirely from donations made by members of the community and voluntary contributions from First Responders. Please consider supporting our mission today! ACADEMY

OUR ACADEMY

Since 2002, our Police & Fire Chaplain Training Academy has graduated over 800 Chaplains from all corners of the U.S. and as far away as South Africa. We are dedicated to equipping Police and Fire Chaplains with the skills necessary to effectively function in emergency scenarios, and to bring compassionate care to First Responders and the communities they serve. Our week-long Academy consists of classroom instruction as well as practical, scenario-based training.

The Academy is held twice each year at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission in Burien. Our Academy Command Staff and cadre of Instructors are subject matter experts who bring decades of experience to the week of learning. For registration forms, FAQs and other information, please click on the "Academy Packet" link to the right.
